CollegeSwimming.com Sends Out Christmas Present to National College Swimmers of the Week

CARTHAGE, Wisconsin, December 25. An NCAA Division II record-setter earned top billing in this week’s CollegeSwimming.com National College Swimmers of the Week honors. Anastasia Klyarovskaya of Delta State, who took down the 200-yard back D2 record last week, was one of four honorees.

Division I Women
Hannah Kastigar, a Grand Canyon University freshman from Aberdeen, S.D., won three individual events and was a member of four victorious relay events in a three-day meet against the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio earlier this week. Kastigar won the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:15.92, the best time in the WAC this season by nine seconds. She also set WAC-best times in the 100 butterfly (54.59-exhibition) and 200 butterfly (1:58.06). Her 200 IM time of 2:00.99 is the second best in the WAC this season. Kastigar also swam the lead-off leg of the 400 medley relay and set a school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.32. Her efforts have earned her the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Women’s Division I Swimmer of the Week, as well as the WAC Swimmer of the Week.

Division I Men
Georgia Tech junior Andrew Kosic (West Chester, PA) won both the 50 free and 100 free, while helping the 400 medley relay to victory in dual meet action against Florida Atlantic University over the weekend. Kosic was clocked in 21.03 in winning the 50, 45.71 in the 100 and teamed with Mark Sarman, Nico van Duijn and Taylor Wilson in the 400 medley relay 3:26.72. Kosic also posted times of 20.85 and 20.94 in the 50, and 45.89 in the 100 free this week. His efforts have earned him the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Men’s Division I Swimmer of the Week.

Division II Women
Anastasia Klyarovskaya (Moscow, Russia), a freshman at Delta State University, is the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Women’s Division II Swimmer of the Week after her dominating performance at the DSU Christmas Invitational. Set a new NCAA Division II record in the 200 backstroke (1:56.44). She set 2 new team records in the 100 (54.42) and 200 back, both were NCAA Division II Automatic A qualifying time standards. She also posted an impressive 200 fly (2:03.88). She lead off the current #1 ranked 200 Medley Relay in the country and was apart of the #2 ranked 800 Freestyle Relay for D2. She also was apart of breaking all 5 team relay records over the course of the meet.

Division II Men
Matheus Assis is the Philip Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Men’s Division II Swimmer of the Week. Assis collected two NCAA automatic qualifying times and two NCAA provisional qualifying times at the Nova Southeastern Invitational. He swam the 50-yard freestyle preliminary with an NCAA automatic qualify time of 20.02 seconds. This time also tied his original SSC and Saint Leo school record set last year, while also setting a meet record. In the 100-yard freestyle preliminary, Assis set another conference, school and meet record with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 43.89 seconds. Both his 50- and 100-yard freestyle times are currently the fastest in Division II this season. The native of Brazil recorded an NCAA provisional time in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.32 seconds. His time also set conference, school and meet records. Assis was the lead leg for the 400-yard freestyle relay team that captured an NCAA provisional time of 3:00.29 for second place in the race.
