SULPHUR—Held at the SPAR Aquatic Center in early March, the 2015 Louisiana Short Course State Championships saw an astounding number of records fall. Colin Bone of Crawfish Aquatics succeeded in winning five events over the course of the meet, breaking records in three of the five.

Bone claimed wins in the 50, 100, 200, and 500 freestyle events, as well as, the 100 fly. The seventeen year old managed to lower his own 100 free record of 45.07 from the previous month to a swift 44.86.

Bone not only broke his own record, but two long-standing records as well. Winning the 200 free with a time of 1:37.99, Bone managed to bypass Damon McCoy’s record of 1:38.85 from 1984. Not only did he beat McCoy’s 1984 record, the seventeen year old also was able to tie Brian Zielinski’s 34 year old record of 49.36 in the 100 fly.

Competing in the 1000 free, Bone managed to keep up with former LSU All-American Craig Hamilton to claim second place with a time of 9:20.90.

Various Crawfish Aquatics relays also set records within the 15-18 age group. Olivia Huffman, Ashlyn Hunt, Erin Trahan and Caroline Beene succeeded in lowering the 200 medley relay record by .02 to a 1:47.94. Those same four girls teamed up again in the 400 medley relay finishing with a swift 3:52.58. Their time replaces the 2013 record of 3:53.44. Trahan, Huffman and Beene later teamed up with Chanler Turnley for the 400 free relay replacing the 1997 record of 3:31.12 with a 3:29.18.

Crawfish Aquatics won with 6514 to out distance NuWave Swim Club and Tiger Aquatics with 2702 and 2651 points respectively.
