Colgate Splits With Binghampton

VESTAL, N.Y. January, 29. THE Colgate women’s swimming and diving team improved to 8-2 on the season with a 184-107 win at Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 28, in its final dual meet of 2006. The Raiders were led by a pair of rookie-laden relays that set three records, including the Binghamton pool record in the 400 free relay.

Colgate kicked off the meet by setting the freshman record in the 200 medley relay. Ashley Bottger (Weston, Conn.) swam the lead-off leg, followed by classmates Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.). Lisa Marchi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished the race by swimming a blistering 24.17 in the freestyle portion to give the relay a time of 1:51.78.

In the last event of the day, the same freshman foursome set Colgate’s freshman record and the Binghamton pool record in the 400 free relay, turning in a time of 3:33.15. The performance is tied for third all-time at Colgate, and is the fastest time in the Patriot League this season.

Walker swam the 100 back in the fourth-fastest time in school history, 58.94. Sophomore Colby Seamans (Naperville, Ill.) won the 500 free with a personal-best time of 5:21.55 after winning the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.19.

Junior Leslie Petsoff (Glen Ridge, N.J.) won the 200 fly, posting a time of 2:18.31, and freshman Jessica Johnson (Centennial, Colo.) won the 200 breast with a time of 2:35.34.

Senior Emily McAuliff (Springfield, Ill.) swept the diving events, winning on the one-meter board with 223.73 points, and scoring 245.03 points on the three-meter board. Senior Jen Rodgers (Glenmont, N.Y.) placed second in both events with 195.75 points in the one-meter and 236.63 points in the three-meter.

On the men's side senior Marc Falkner (Basking Ridge, N.J.) won both breaststroke events and placed second in the 200 IM in a 167-123 loss to Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 28, as Colgate’s men’s swimming and diving team completed its dual-meet season.

Falkner finished the 100 breast with a time of 59.76. He won the 200 breast by nearly four seconds, touching the pad in 2:10.91. Falkner finished the 200 IM in 1:55.86.

Freshman George Bennitt (West Chester, Pa.) earned an exciting win in the 200 free, beating the runner-up by 0.14 seconds with a time of 1:48.47. Freshman Brian Kennedy (Summit, N.J.) had a career-best performance in the 200 back, recording a time of 2:07.33.

Freshman Scott Dunlavey (Oak Park, Ill.) posted a personal-best time of 58.92 in the 100 back as well as a personal-best time of 2:05.37 in the 200 IM. Senior Brad Oastler (New Hartford, N.Y.) swam the 200 IM in a personal-best time of 2:18.48.

The Raiders will take the next month to prepare for the Patriot League Championship, which will be held Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 23-25, at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
