Coimbra International: Diogo Filipe Carvalho Wins Five in Two-Day Meet

COIMBRA, Portugal, May 31. THE second Coimbra International featured an international cast of swimmers competing over long course meters in the two-day event.

Amongst the men, Portugal's Diogo Filipe Carvalho won the 100 free (50.38), 200 breast (2:15.87), 50 fly (24.29), 100 fly (52.92) and 200 IM (2:00.02) for a total of five victories. American Randall Bal also won multiple golds with wins in the 50 back (24.97) and 100 back (54.29),

Alexandre Agostinho nabbed the 50 free in 22.36, while Ricardo Jose Varela took the 50 breast (29.45). Luis Marques Pinto claimed the 200 free (1:50.84), with Jorge Manuel Maia winning the 1500 free in 15:51.42. Fabio Manuel Pereira touched first in the 200 fly (2:03.77), while Andre Miguel Silva won the 100 breast (1:04.53). Adriano Miguel Niz topped the 200 back (2:03.59) with Cesar Fernando Faria (3:57.92) and Diogo Yabe (4:27.85) winning the 400 free and IM, respectively.

For the women, Marieke Guehrer put on a show. She won the 50 free (25.16), 100 free (56.62), 50 fly (26.60) and 100 fly (1:00.56) to earn four golds. Brazil's Fabiola Molina also claimed multiple titles with wins in the 50 back (28.44) and 100 back (1:02.33).

Other individual titles went to Vania Soares Neves (800 free: 9:04.44), Diana Duarte Gomes (200 breast: 2:33.36), Joana Catarina Carvalho (50 breast: 31.62), Sara Beatriz Loureiro (200 free: 2:03.62), Nadia Morais Vieira (2:19.90), American Kim Vandenberg (200 fly: 2:12.10), Ana Marisa Brito (100 breast: 1:09.95), Marta Pereira Abreu (200 back: 2:20.14), Ana Ribeiro Fereira (400 free: 4:25.34) and Julia Mas Sayos (400 IM: 4:56.83).
