Coaches See More of the Same; Defending Champion Auburn Debuts Atop Both CSCAA Polls

AUBURN, Ala, October 27. THE College Swim Coaches Association announced their first Dual Meet Rankings of the 2004-05 season on Monday, October 25, 2004. And the school reported that, just as they did at the end of last season’s championship events, the Auburn men's and women's swimming and diving teams each hold the top spot in their respective polls.

The Auburn women, who have won three straight national championships, have held the top spot in the national polls dating back to the initial poll in the fall of 2002. The AU women garnered 197 points and five out of a possible eight first-place votes, marking the first time since the Jan. 30, 2003, poll that AU was not a unanimous choice. Georgia is second with three first-place votes followed by Florida, Stanford and Arizona.

On the men's side, Auburn amassed seven out of seven first-place votes to easily distance itself from #2-ranked Stanford. The Tigers held the top spot and all eight first-place votes for the entire 2003-04 dual meet season en route to their second straight NCAA title. The last time the Auburn men were not the top team in the country was in the final poll of the 2002-03 season (Feb. 27) when AU was second behind Stanford before going on to win the 2003 NCAA title.

Auburn will put their rankings on the line for the first time on Friday, Nov. 12, when Georgia comes to town for a 5:45 p.m. dual meet.

The AU women have not lost a dual meet in over five seasons, compiling a dual meet record of 36-0 since the beginning of the 1999-2000 season. AU's last dual meet loss was a 171-129 defeat to Stanford on Jan. 8, 1999.

The Auburn men have also found similar success in the recent dual meet seasons. The Tigers are 22-0 since the 2001-02 season and have not suffered a loss since Texas knocked off the Tigers 136.5-103.5 on Jan. 11, 2001.
