Clemson, Western Kentucky vs. Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Georgia, November 4. IN a tough battle that came down to the final relay, the Georgia Tech women's swimming and diving team split with Western Kentucky and Clemson earning the victory over their ACC counterpart while the men fell to both teams on the night.
The women earned the 196-104 victory over the Tigers falling 161-139 to the Hilltoppers. On the men's side of things, the Jackets dropped the dual with WKU 164-136 and falling to Clemson in a meet that was decided by the final relay 157-141.

"Tonight was a fun meet," said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. "It came right down to the last relay which is what you want, you want a chance to win at the end. We swam really well tonight and over half of the team had season best times. We are looking forward to a great meet tomorrow against a very good Big 10 team in Penn State. They will be fast when they get in here, so we have to be ready to go."

The Jacket diving corps shone on the day as Brandon Makinson and Chris Khosravi went 1-2 in the 1-meter dive while Ashley Hardy and Helen Alvey did the same on the women's side of things. Makinson netted a total of 334.05 for the victory while Khosravi earned 305.60 in the runner up position whilel Hardy netted 284.65 (1st) and Alvey had 284.45 (2nd).

Their success continued into the 3-meter dive as Makinson and Khosravi again notched a 1-2 finish this time with Makinson tallying 373.75 points while Khosravi earned 340.65 of his own. Alvey earned the first place finish this time with a score of 288.45 while Hardy took third in 268.10.

On the swimming side of things, the 200-Fly swimmers also saw success on the day. Both the men's and women's team took home the victory. On the men's side, newcomer Nico van Duijn earned the first place finish with a time of 1:52.74 while Jordan Evans won it for the women in a time of 2:04.06. Keren Siebner followed Evans, touching the wall less than a second later at 2:05.05.

Evans' success continued into the 100-Fly where she also picked up the victory with a time of 55.20. Following behind Evans, again, was Siebner who finished in second with a time of 56.37 while Kate Brandus took fourth in 57.09. Evans rounded out her day with a second place finish in the 200-IM registering a time of 2:06.07. All of Evans' times on the day were season bests.

Anton Lagerqvist picked up a couple of second place finishes on the day in the 100-Breast (56.99) and 200-Breast (2:05.25) with Ryan Salmon coming in right behind him in the 200 in 58.33 and Max Randolph taking fifth with a time of 58.89.

Sarah Broadley also saw success on the night with two second place finishes in the 100-Free (52.16) tying teammate Alexis Weber and in the 200-Free (1:51.95) also aiding on the relay teams.

The Jackets finished the night with a women's win in the 400-Free relay as Weber, Kate Riley, Keren Siebner and Broadley took home the victory in a time of 3:29.02. The men's squad took the runner up spot as Andrew Kosic, Nigel Plummer, Jake Johnson and Nico van Duijn combined for a time of 3:03.77.

The Jackets will be back in action with another home dual meet tomorrow, Saturday, November 5 at 11 a.m. when they take on Penn State in their first ever meeting with the Nittany Lions.
