Clemson Swim Teams Rank #1 in the Classroom Among the University’s Athletic Teams

CLEMSON, S.C., March 24. IN a familiar scenario, the Clemson women's and men's swimming teams topped all other athletic teams at the university when it came to academic performance, the University announced today.

The team GPAs and academic honor roll students were compiled by the Clemson University Office of Institutional Research and Planning.

Coach Christopher Ip's women's and men's swimming programs both had over a 3.0 GPA for the first semester of the 2004-05 academic year to highlight the academic report for Clemson athletic teams.

Ip's women's program posted a department best 3.36 GPA, the highest GPA for any team at Clemson and the 11th consecutive semester the team has had at least a 3.0 team GPA, the longest active streak of any team at Clemson.

The men's program had a 3.04 figure, the fourth straight semester that team has had at least a 3.0 team GPA.

The women's team had a record 27 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll, while the men's had 16, the second highest one-semester total on record for that program.

Other programs with at least a 3.0 weighted GPA were women's soccer (3.27), women's tennis (3.07), volleyball (3.00) and rowing (3.00).
