Clemson Sweeps Georgia Tech

CLEMSON, S.C., Jan. 24. THE Georgia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped their final Atlantic Coast Conference meet this afternoon, falling to Clemson 147-89 (men) and 136-107 (women), in the McHugh Natatorium.

The Yellow Jacket men fall to 3-6, 2-3 ACC, while the women drop to 3-6, 1-4 ACC. Clemson moves to 12-2-1, 3-1-1 on the men's side and 10-4, 1-3 ACC on the women's side.

Leading the diving competition was Tech's Laurissa Prystaj (Fairport, N.Y.). Prystaj tallied NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks of 272.55 and 287.62 on the one- and three-meter springboards. Prystaj's mark on the one-meter board was a season-high tally for the Yellow Jackets.

Freshman Vesna Stojanovska (Skopje, Macedonia) tallied first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 200 individual medley events for the Jackets. Stojanovska posted a time of 1:52.83 in the 200 free and 2:08.42 in the 200 IM.

In the 1000 free, sophomore Sam Morgan (Gainesville, Ga.) and senior Eduardo Oliver (Jacksonville, Fla.) swept the event for the Yellow Jackets. Morgan finished the race first with a time of 9:23.53, while Oliver tallied a season-best mark of 9:27.39 to finish second in the event.

Picking up her first win of the season was freshman Natanya Harper (Atlanta, Ga.) in the 50 free. Harper finished with a time of 24.62.

Sophomore Ashley Kracke (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) captured the 200 backstroke event for Tech with a time of 2:05.77.

Rounding out first-place finishers for the Jackets was freshman Alex Williams (Indianapolis, Ind.). Williams posted a first-place time of 2:08.58 in the 200 breaststroke.

The Tech 400 free relay team of Moeko Wallis (Columbus, Ga.), Elizabeth Foster (Frankfort, Ky.), Dana West (Brookeville, Md.) and Harper finished first in the relay with a time of 3:33.36.

Freshman diver Tony Burkhardt (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished second on the one-meter board for the Yellow Jackets with a NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 295.87.

The Rambling Wreck swimming and diving teams will host two meets next weekend to wrap up the 2003-04 dual meet schedule. The Jackets will take on Kentucky on Friday, Jan. 30 and Emory on Saturday, Jan. 31. Both meets will be held in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center and are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and Noon, respectively.
