Class of 2011 Swimming World Five Stars Michael Covert, Matt Elliott, Brennan Jacobsen Commit; Other Recruits Choose Colleges

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 14. SWIMMING World five stars Michael Covert, Matt Elliott and Brennan Jacobsen of the Class of 2011 have chosen their college destinations.

Covert, who maintains his profile in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings, is a backstroke specialist who will be headed to the University of South Carolina.

"Coach [McGee] Moody and his staff at South Carolina are a great fit for me as a swimmer and student," Covert told Swimming World. "Additionally, total renovations to the pool were completed Fall 2010 making it great along with the Dodie Academic Center and dorm situation. It's an exciting time to be a Gamecock. The program has continued to get better and stronger, and I feel this team is ‘my' team and my teammates are the best. They will be a force in the SEC, NCAA and on. Go Gamecocks! "

Covert swims for Quest in Chester, Va. He has multiple long course senior national cuts: 100m back 0:57.91; 200m back 2:05.20; 200m IM 2:07.78.

Elliott, who maintains his profile in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings, is an all-around swimmer who will be headed to the University of Florida.

"The reason I chose Florida is that it has a world class coaching staff, and after meeting the team I felt like they are on the verge of something big," Elliott told Swimming World. "I am pretty excited to be able to be part of that. Florida has given me the opportunity to achieve my goals, and I appreciate that greatly."

Elliott swims for PAWW and preps at Peoria Richwoods in Peoria, Ill. He has multiple long course senior national cuts: 100m breast 1:01.99; 200m breast 2:13.53; 200m IM 2:06.55; 400m IM 4:27.20.

Jacobsen, who maintains his profile in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings, is a middle to distance freestyler who will be headed to the University of Notre Dame.

"I have decided to go to the University of Notre Dame next year," Jacobsen told Swimming World. "The tradition, the education, the campus, the team, and the coaches…Notre Dame has it all. After my visit to South Bend, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Here come the Irish."

Jacobsen swims for La Mirada Armada and preps at Sonora High in Whittier, Calif. He has a pair of long course senior national cuts: 400m free 3:58.24; 1500m free 15:47.63.

Four-star Sabrina Benson, who maintains her profile in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings, is a backstroker from YMCA of the Triangle who will be headed to Virginia Tech.

Four-star Catherine Breed, who maintains her profile in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings, is a distance freestyler from the Pleasanton Seahawks who will be headed to California.

Four-star Keanu Stevenson, who maintains his profile in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings, is a breaststroker from the Newburgh Sea Creatures who will be headed to Ohio State.
