12-year-old Claire Curzan became the youngest swimmer to break 54 seconds in the 100 fly on Sunday at the National Black Heritage Meet in Greensboro, North Carolina. The swimmer from Raleigh Swim Association re-broke her National Age Group Record that stood at 54.00. Curzan swam a 53.95 on Sunday to lower her record she set in March of this year.

Curzan has been on a roll this past year as she has lowered the NAG record in the 100 fly for 11-12 girls multiple times throughout the last year. Curzan also holds the NAG record in the 50 fly that she set taking out her 100 in March. Her 50 record stands at 24.39. Curzan has been on such a roll the last year that she was Swimming World’s up and comer of the month for the month of May. Curzan sits ahead of Regan Smith (54.73) and Miriam Sheehan (54.90) in the all-time rankings for 11-12 year old girls in the 100 SCY fly.

She’s as fast as Mark Spitz when he attempted a come back in the early 90s in the 100 fly. 🙂
