City of Milan Trophy: Fabio Scozzoli Doubles; Posts Top-Ranked 50 Breast

MILAN, Italy, February 4. THE City of Milan Trophy meet, taking place in long course meter format, featured a handful of swimmers doubling up during a pair of timed finals sessions today.

Fabio Scozzoli jumped to the top of the men's 50 breast early world rankings with a 27.95. That swim cleared the 28.06 set by Daniel Sliwinski in Antwerp last month. Mattia Pesce finished second in 28.06, now tying Sliwinski, while Alessio Pinna and Nicolo Ossola tied for third with matching 28.71s. Scozzoli doubled with a 1:01.13 in the men's 100 breast. That swim pushed him to fourth in the world rankings behind Daniel Gyurta (1:00.43), Daniel Sliwinski (1:00.75) and Mark Gangloff (1:01.08). Mattia Pesce (1:01.60) and Flavio Bizzarri (1:02.53) claimed second and third.

Milorado Cavic claimed the men's 50 fly in 24.13, jumping to seventh in the early world rankings. Evgeny Korotyshkin finished second in 24.54, while Tommaso Romani wound up third in 24.55. Cavic won the men's 100 fly in 53.11, while Korotyshkin took second in 53.96. Stefano Pizzamigilo placed third in 54.28.

Ilaria Bianchi topped the women's 50 fly in 27.09, while Letizia Bertelli placed second in 28.06. Camilla Dal Rio earned third in 28.24. She doubled up with a 58.97 to win the women's 100 fly, for a top 10 spot in the rankings. Alessia Polieri finished second in 1:01.29. Emanuela Albenzi earned third in 1:02.05.

Mirco Di Tora touched in 55.94 to capture the men's 100 back crown. Matteo Milli finished second in 56.16, while Marco Ceragioli picked up third in 56.91. Di Tora snared a second title with a 26.00 in the men's 50 back. Vitaly Melnikov (26.18) and Manuel Cofrani (26.18) took second and third.

Arianna Barbieri clinched the women's 100 back in 1:03.15, while Roberta Ioppi (1:04.59) and Eileen Diener (1:04.72) completed the top three in the event. Barbieri doubled by capturing the women's 50 back in 29.10, while Carlotta Zofkova took second in 29.60. Ivana Gabrilo picked up third in 30.25.

Federica Pellegrini won the women's 100 free in 55.83, while Alice Mizzau took second in 56.49. Chiara Masini Luccetti took home third in 56.52. Filippo Magnini stopped the clock in 50.01 to capture the men's 100 free. Andrey Grechin earned second in 50.17, while Michele Santucci picked up third in 50.19.

Nicol Valentini hit the wall in 32.75 to win the women's 50 breast. Ilaria Scarcella finished second in 32.87, while Sara Sanzari picked up third in 33.04. Tanja Smid posted a 1:10.77 to win the women's 100 breast. Ilaria Scarcella took second in 1:11.19, while Nicol Valentini earned third in 1:11.45.

Alessia Polieri won the women's 400 IM in 4:49.09. Susanna Negri (4:53.68) and Carlotta Toni (4:57.95) finished second and third. Matteo Pelizzari topped the men's 400 IM in 4:29.54. Niccolo Maschi placed second in 4:31.54, while Giorgio Battistella finished third in 4:31.60.

Martina De Memme claimed the women's 400 free in 4:12.50, while Alice Nesti took a close second in 4:12.68. Martina Rita Caramignoli earned third in 4:17.28. Andrea D'Arrigo clocked a 3:55.72 to win the men's 400 free. Alex Di Giorgio (3:57.70) and Federico Vanelli (3:58.31) completed the top three.

Miroslava Najadanovski claimed the women's 50 free in 26.06. Gigliola Tecchio (26.15) and Erika Ferraioli (26.25) wound up second and third. Federico Bocchia topped the men's 50 free in 22.77, while Luca Dotto took second in 22.80. Andrey Grechin earned third in 23.15.

Camilla Dal Rio clinched the women's 200 IM title in 2:18.80. Marussia Pietrocola (2:20.41) and Francesca Annis (2:21.53) finished second and third. Luca Dioli cruised in the men's 200 IM with a 2:02.75. Davide Cova placed second in 2:05.63, while Massimiliano Rosolino took third in 2:06.79.
