Cindy Tran Blasts National Age Group Mark for 10 & Unders

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., March 25. TEN year-old Cindy Tran of the Golden West Swim Club (GWSC) broke the 10 & Under national age group (NAG) record in the 50 yard
backstroke twice in one day – in prelims and again in finals – lowering the record to 27.81 seconds.

The records were set at the Southern California 14 & Under Junior Olympics held at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.

Tran swam 28.15 for the 50 yard backstroke in the preliminary session of the meet, breaking the previous mark of 28.82 held by 1996 Olympic champion Beth
Botsford, now a senior at the University of Arizona.

In the finals, Tran lowered the standard to 27.81 — 1.01 seconds under the previous record.
