Cincinnati at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia, November 2. THE West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Big East foe Cincinnati this evening at the WVU Natatorium.

The men's team won the meet 134 to the Bearcats 86, while the women won 122-104.

The Mountaineers' evening was highlighted with four official natatorium records being broke. Junior Michael Walker had a stand-out showing breaking records in the 100 back and 400 IM events. Walker took first in the 100 back with a time of 51.25 beating the previous record of 51.87, while posting a time of 3:57.05 in the 400 IM, smashing the previous record of 3:59.37.

Junior Lindsey Largo also had an outstanding performance in the 1650 freestyle breaking the prior record of 17:02.76 with a time of 17:00.73. Sophomore Kayla Andrews continued her success taking first in the 100 free with a time of 51.11, breaking the natatorium record of 51.46 that was set in 1984.

Senior Nick Delic and sophomores Zoltan Povazsay and Morgan Callaway also swam well today for the Mountaineers. Delic took first place in the 200 free and 100 butterfly with times of 1:43.58 and 49.14. Povazsay captured wins in the 100 and 500 free events in 46.23 and 4:34.13, while Callaway finished in first in the 500 free and 100 back in 1:54.03 and 57.83.

In diving, the Mountaineers took three of the four events, with sophomore Cameron Whitelam winning both the one and three mtr dive for the men. For the women, sophomore Ashley Malik took first in the one mtr dive.

"I am very proud of everyone today. They have been training well all week and today we broke four official natatorium records," says Head Coach Vic Riggs. "Each race we are swimming better and better and making less mistakes. Today was good indication of what our team can do."
