Christine Jennings, Deni Cullom Win 5K U.S. Open Water National Titles

LONG BEACH, California, June 7. FOLLOWING the 10K open water national championship race, which took place on Friday, the Open Water National Championships concluded on Sunday with the 5K race. Christine Jennings, who earned silver in the 10K race, won her first national championship title with a win in the women's 5K in a time of 59:45:7.

Eva Fabian, who won the event at the 2009 National Championships, took second in 59:45:9. Canadian swimmer Zsofia Balazs was third in 1:00:0, while Claire Thompson of West Florida Lightning Aquatics was fourth in 1:02:28.

Deni Cullom of Mission Viejo also won his first national title, crossing the finish line first in the men's 5K in 57:06.7. Cullom was followed by 10K National Champion Fran Crippen in second with a time of 57:07.1, while open water veteran Chip Peterson earned bronze in 57:08.2.
