Christina Loukas To Be Inducted Into Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, September 14. FORMER Indiana University diver Christina Loukas will be inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 24 at the Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero, Ill.

"Christina is well deserving of this award," said Indiana head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber. "She is the perfect example of what happens when you combine talent with dedication, hard work, intelligence, and heart. She is being inducted with a phenomenal group of individuals and she deserves to be with them. I am very happy to see her recognized."

Loukas, who competed for the Hoosiers from 2005-09, capped off her impressive Hoosier career this past spring with her first NCAA title, taking home the 3-meter crown with an NCAA-record total of 437.75 points. She also finished second on the one-meter and 11th on the platform to earn NCAA Diver of the Year accolades. Loukas followed up that performance with national titles on the 1-meter springboard and 3-meter synchronized springboard at the USA Diving Spring National Championships in April.

This summer she won her sixth USA Diving national title with a victory on the 1-meter springboard. She also represented the United States at the FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, where she finished eighth in the 3-meter springboard competition.
Over the course of her four-year career, Loukas was named the Big Ten Diver of the Year and the Big Ten Diver of the Championships four times. She was the Big Ten champion on the 1-meter in 2005, 2006 and 2007, on the 3-meter in 2007 and 2009, and the platform in 2007. Loukas finished with a total of 11 NCAA All-America citations out of a possible 12. She was named the Indiana Female Athlete of the Year in 2009.

In the classroom, Loukas earned her degree in Exercise Science while maintaining a 3.5+ GPA. She was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America team this year and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. She is currently working on her master¹s degree at IU while continuing to train under Huber.

Loukas is one of 19 Chicago-area sports figures being inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining Kurt Becker, Tony Carey, John Collins, Pat Fitzgerald, Ed Kelly, Ron Kittle, Eugene Lenti, Greg Luzinski, John McDonough, Jack McHugh, Andy McKenna, Bob Miller, Tom Mitchell, Leah Poulos Mueller, George Perles, George Randazzo, John Register and Pete Rodriguez.

North Carolina head men¹s basketball coach Roy Williams is being presented with the Ray Meyer College Coach of the Year award, while former Chicago Bears great Dan Hampton will receive the George Connor Lifetime Achievement Award.
