Chinese Diving Supremacy Upheld at World Championships

MONTREAL, July 18. ADDING to China’s rich tradition on the diving board, the duo of Tong Jia and Lin Yuan captured gold on Sunday in the women’s 10-meter synchro competition at the 11th edition of the World Championships. The Chinese have been a global power in diving for decades and should maintain that excellence through the next Olympiad, which will be held in Beijing.

The Australian duo of Chantelle Newbery and Loudy Tourky picked up the silver medal in the synchro tower while Canada’s Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito thrilled the home crowd of 2,500 with a bronze-medal showing. The Canadian women were a surprise on the medal podium, as they’ve competed in only five events together.

In the men’s three-meter springboard synchro final, the gold medal went to China’s Feng Wang and Chong He while the silver medal was grabbed by the German pair of Tobias Schellenberg and Andreas Wels. The United States’ Justin and Troy Dumais slipped in for the bronze medal.
