Chelsea Franklin Smashes Girls 11-12 National Age Group Marks

ORLANDO, July 31. CHELSEA Franklin of the Gulf Coast Swim Team broke a national age group mark for girls 11-12 and claimed her sixth individual High Point Award at the Florida Swimming Junior Olympics (JO) Meet held in Orlando, FL on July 17 – 20, 2003. A week later she obliterated another national age group record.

In Orlando, Chelsea broke 1 NAG 11 & 12 Girls record (800 Free – 9:02.62), three JO Records ( 400 Free 4:25.07, 200 Free 2:07.59, 100 Fly – 1:06.11), two Florida Swimming LSC Records (200 Free 2:07.59, and 100 Fly 1:06.11), and 12 GCST Records (11 & 12 100 Free, 200 Free, 400 Free, 800 Free, 100 Back, 100 Fly, 200 IM and Senior 100 Free, 200 Free, 400 Free, 800 Free, 100 Fly). All swims were NAG Top 16 times. Chelsea won the 11 & 12 Girls 100 Free, 200 Free, 400 Free, 800 Free, 100 Fly, and finished second in the 200 IM.

Chelsea then swam in the the Florida Swimming Senior Championships in Ft. Pierce, Florida and on the final night of the meet, broke the 11 & 12 Girls Florida LSC record in the 200 Fly with a 2:20.70, which narrowly missed the NAG record and won the event.

She then swam the Senior 1500 Free and won that event as well, swimming half a minute under the NAG record with a 17:23.77.

Chelsea, who is coached by Don Henshaw, will represent Florida Swimming at the Southern Zone Age Group Championships on July 30th – August 3rd in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
