Chad le Clos, along with Devon Myles BrownSebastien RousseauAyrton Sweeney, and Cameron van der Burghwere announced today by Swimming South Africa as members of the 2015 World Championship team. The team staff will include Manager / Coach Cedric Finch and Coach Graham Hill. All five qualified at the South African Nationals back in April.

While the five-man team is small, there is a lot of firepower among the squad. Chad le Clos was last seen in action at the Monte Carlo stop of the Mare Nostrum series, where he posted a 51.66 win in the 100 butterfly that ranks him 5th in the world for 2015. While he has shown most international success in the butterfly, le Clos has also looked to expand his program to include the 100/200 free and 200 IM which could lead to an impressive medal haul this summer.

le Clos is best remembered for his upset Olympic legend Michael Phelps in at the 2012 London Olympics. While he won’t get a rematch against Phelps is Kazan this summer, look for him to look to make a statement leading up to a potential duel the following summer at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Le Clos currently sits 2nd in the world in the 200 butterfly for 2015 with a 1:54.90 from the Barcelona stop of the Mare Nostrum Series.

Accompanying le Clos will be breaststroke standout Cameron van der Burgh, the reigning Olympic gold medalist and former world record holder in the long course 50 and 100 breaststrokes. He will also be looking to make a statement in those events (he currently sits 2nd in the 50 breast and 4th in the 100) after the recent world records from Great Britain’s Adam Peaty.

The 16th FINA World Championships will take place this summer from July 28 – August 10 in Kazan, Russia.
