Caroline Bonfield, Kevin Miller Claim Distance Free Titles at Day One of Ithaca Sectionals

ITHACA–The Ithaca Speedo Sectionals are off to a swift start with both Caroline Bonfield of the Princeton Piranhas and Kevin Miller of Swim Ithaca posting first places finishes well ahead of the competition in the distance events.

Caroline Bonfield of the Princeton Piranhas bested the competition in the 1650 free finishing a whopping 20 seconds ahead of the competition. Bonfield touched with a 16:56.02, an almost eleven second drop from her prelims time. Kelly Malyszka of Condors Swim Club of Clarkstow took second with a 17:16.06. Lillian Mannion of Charles River Aquatics finished close behind with a 17:18.15 to grab third.

Swim Ithaca’s Kevin Miller dashed to a quick 9:20.88 in the men’s 1000 free, shedding 21.85 seconds from his prelims time. Griffin Hutton of the Princeton Piranhas claimed second with a 9:32.47. Samuel Rice of Weymouth Club Waves grabbed a close third with a time of 9:33.70.
