Carmel got off to a fiery start with a new National High School record in the 200 medley relay. Teammates Wyatt Davis (22.39), Stefano Batista (24.83), Drew Kibler (20.64), and Andrew Couchon (20.14) delivered a top qualifying time of 1:28.00 to down the Indiana State record of 1:29.44, as well as the National HS Public Record of 1:29.20.

The National HS record was originally set by Minnetonka in 2017, while the Indiana state record was posted by Zionsville, also in 2017.

Carroll (Fort Wayne) posted the second fastest time of the night at a 1:31.13, while Zionsville took third in prelims with a 1:31.34.
