Canadian Short Course Championships: Third Night In Books

LONDON, Ontario & KAMLOOPS, British Columbia, Canada, February 19. THE third night of the Canadian Short Course Championships is in the books.

Eastern Championships

Jacqueline Keire topped the women's 100 free in 55.23, while Carol Lapierre-Lemire took second in 56.15. Alyson Ackman finished third in 56.31. Zach Fedak captured the men's 100 free in 50.61. Evan Van Moerkerke (51.06) and Eric Chan (51.19) touched second and third.

Katerine Savard cruised to victory in the women's 200 fly with a 2:08.62. Prisciliana Escobar earned second in 2:12.15, while Zsofi Balazs picked up third in 2:14.74. Brayden Salmon touched out Chris Bezeau, 2:00.64 to 2:00.71, in the men's 200 fly. Cam Cummings wound up third in 2:02.43.

Gabriella Soucisse rolled through the women's 200 back with a 2:08.52 with Cynthia Pammett placing second in 2:10.44. Kylie Weber completed the podium in 2:11.68. Graham Hawes followed in the men's 200 back with a winning 1:57.72. Matt Kwatyra touched a distant second in 2:00.98, while Ivan Cocunubo picked up third in 2:01.28.

Ashley McGregor won the women's 50 breast in 31.74 with Marie Jean-Lachapelle (32.16) and Erin Stamp (32.28) taking second and third. Jeffrey Sudbury claimed the men's 50 breast in 28.81, while Hugues Patry took second in 29.00. Eric Chan finished third in 29.12.

Susana Escobar dominated the women's 400 free in 4:08.54 with Keire taking second in 4:12.86. Lindsay Charles rounded out the top three in 4:14.08. Salmon doubled up with a 3:55.72 to win the men's 400 free. Daniel Jensen (3:55.88) and Antoine David (3:56.77) also made the podium.

Western Championships

Chantal Vanlandeghem kept on rolling after a triple last night. She started off this evening with a 53.37 to win the women's 100 free. Jessica Plant (55.56) and Nicole Cossey (55.82) finished second and third. Luke Peddie won the men's 100 free in 49.90. Bryan Wray placed second in 50.92, while Michael Lowenstein wound up third in 51.36.

Lindsay Delmar knocked off Carmen Nam, 2:14.32 to 2:14.99, for the women's 200 fly title. Devon Bibault took third in 2:15.88. Thomas Jobin earned the men's 200 fly in 2:01.07. Alex Page placed second in 2:03.55, while Ciar McDonnell snared third in 2:03.95.

Brooklyn Snodgrass derailed the Vanlandeghem express in the women's 200 back, 2:11.13 to 2:11.29, while Plant finished third in 2:12.68. Chad Bobrosky cleared 2:00 to win the men's 200 back in 1:59.66. James McQuade finished second in 2:00.74, while Lowenstein took third in 2:03.28.

Tiann Rissling snared the women's 50 breast in 31.36, while Rachel Nicol took second in 31.90. Patricia Pierse completed the top three in 31.95. Mike Brown topped the men's 50 breast in 28.48 with Braeden Taylor taking second in 28.49. Chris Tobin wound up third in 28.90.

Emma Sproule cruised to the women's 400 free win in 4:12.46. Sarah Sumner took second in 4:16.34, while Delmar placed third in 4:16.45. Keegan Zanatta hit the wall in 3:52.44 for the men's 400 free win, just ahead of Sean Penhale's 3:52.99. Page pocketed third in 3:55.55.
