Canadian Short Course Championships: Chantal Vanlandeghem Triples

LONDON, Ontario & KAMLOOPS, British Columbia, Canada. February 18. THE second night of swimming at the Canadian Short Course Championships featured a triple in the Western Championships by Chantal Vanlandeghem.

Eastern Championships
Sinead Russell won the women's 100 back in 59.70, while Gabrielle Soucisse (1:00.22) and Cynthia Pammett (1:00.49) took second and third. Graham Hawes topped the men's 100 back in 54.18, while Cam Cummings took second in 55.34. Shane Baxter placed third in 55.80.

Katerine Savard claimed the women's 50 fly in 26.32 with Paulina Bond earning second in 27.27. Erin Stamp finished third in 27.37. Zach Fedak followed with a 24.62 to win the men's 50 fly, while Eric Chan posted a 24.92 for second. Kourosh Ahani wound up third in 25.00.

Ashley McGregor finished first in the women's 200 breast in 2:26.81, while Stamp took her second podium of the night with a 2:28.25. Jasmine Rivest touched third in 2:29.38. Marco Monaco captured the men's 200 breast in 2:15.13, while Hugues Patry placed second in 2:17.61. Erik Zeman touched third in 2:17.84.

Marie-Pier Ratelle grabbed the women's 50 free title in 25.02, while Carol Lapierre-Lemire took second in 25.74. Savard podiumed for the second time with a third-place 25.75. Jeffrey Sudbury grabbed the men's 50 free crown in a touch-out triumph over Fedak, 23.16 to 23.18. Marc-Andre Benoit finished third in 23.61.

Susana Escobar took home the women's 400 IM crown in 4:40.91, while Karyn Jewell (4:42.15) and McGregor (4:51.44) finished second and third. Matt Kwatyra cruised to victory in the men's 400 IM with a 4:20.07. Luis Escobar (4:24.46) and Austin Rockett (4:24.81) rounded out the podium.

Western Championships
Chantal Vanlandeghem raced to victory in the women's 100 back with a 58.82, while Brooklyn Snodgrass finished second in 1:00.72. Samantha Corea took third in 1:00.83. Michael Lowenstein topped the men's 100 back in 55.10, while Shane Downey (56.64) and James McQuade (56.76) took second and third.

Vanlandeghem doubled up with a 26.74 to win the women's 50 fly, while Corea (27.03) and Lindsay Delmar (27.58) completed the podium. Luke Peddie snatched the men's 50 fly title in 25.16. Dillon Perron (25.76) took second with James Kendrick and Ciar McDonnell tying for third with matching 25.96s.

Jane Mortlock hit the wall in 2:35.23 for the women's 200 breast, while Kristy Gabruck finished just behind with a 2:35.85. Caitlin Quon rounded out the top three in 2:36.21. Mike Brown stopped the clock in 2:12.51 for the men's 200 breast victory, while Braeden Taylor touched second in 2:13.70. Nathan Vallerand earned third in 2:15.22.

Vanlandeghem continued her strong evening with a third title, this time with a 24.59 in the women's 50 free. Drew Matthews touched second in 25.79, while Ari Mainville finished third in 26.20. Peddie grabbed his second triumph with a 22.79 to win the men's 50 free. Sage Sturgeon took second in 23.56, while Artur Kroitor and Cody Flegel tied for third with 23.79s.

Katie Caldwell snared the women's 400 IM title in 4:43.50, while Delmar took second in 4:46.19 and Tiann Rissling finished third in 4:47.36. Alec Page touched first in the men's 400 IM with a 4:22.48. Evan Broderick placed second in 4:28.05, while Nick Kostiuk snagged third in 4:30.09.
