Campbell Swimming Dominates UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina, October 11. Campbell swimming nearly swept every event in a 175-87 win against UNC Asheville today.

Campbell won 13 of 14 events and defeated UNC Asheville on the road Saturday at the Justice Center Pool.

The Camels controlled both relay events to bookend the meet, first with a 3:58.55 in the 400 medley, and 1:38.57 in the 200 freestyle. Freshman Michelle Case anchored the 400 medley relay before leading off the 200 free relay.

Individually, Case, a Fort Mill, S.C. native, won the 50 free and the 100 free, posting times of 24.62 and 53.71, respectively.

Geena Squartino, another Campbell freshman, topped the 1,000 freestyle with a 10:42.59 mark, as well as the 500 free with a time of 5:16.38.

Meredith Cooper took the 200 free (1:57.94) and the 200 breaststroke (2:31.55), while Lily Tang tallied wins in the 100 back (58.84) and the 200 back (2:06.71).

Junior Sarah Jabusch also notched a dual-win day, taking the 200 fly (2:10.74) and the 200 IM (2:12.24).

Caroline Clark’s 58.97 won the 100 fly for the Camels.

Alessandra Troncoso posted Asheville’s lone win of the day in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.09).

Campbell improved to 2-3 on the season with the win, splitting with a 2-2 record on its road trip.

On Friday in Nashville, Tenn., Campbell placed seven individuals in top-five positions to defeat Arkansas-Little Rock 179-79 at the Centennial Sportsplex. The Camels also fell to host Vanderbilt 207-54 and San Diego State 184-73.

A balanced Campbell team won 13 of 14 events as the Lady Camels downed UNC Asheville, 175-87 at Justice Center Pool Saturday morning.

The Camels (1-0) had three different swimmers win two different races for the visitors. They also won both relay events.

Asheville’s one win came from senior Alessandra Troncoso. She finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.09.

Freshman Emily Werth took second in three events on the day for the Bulldogs. She finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:16.39). 200 backstroke (20:12.62) and 100 butterfly (1:01.80).

“We had some good races today, and I was impressed with Emily Werth’s 200 Butterfly and Alessandra Troncoso’s 100 breaststroke,” stated Bulldog coach Elizabeth Lykins. “We have to continue to get better daily and use every meet to as a learning experience.”

Asheville hosts Brenau University on Friday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.
