LOS ANGELES, California, October 22. SOPHOMORE Vladimir Morozov won his signature 100y free and added a victory in the 100y breast to lead the USC men's swim team to a season-opening non-conference win, 150-101, over visiting CSU Bakersfield on Saturday (Oct. 22) at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium.

Junior Alex Lendrum and sophomores Dimitri Colupaev, Chase Bloch and Morozov won the opening 400y medley relay in 3:17.66, just off an NCAA ‘B' cut.

Senior Julian Bonse won the first individual event, capturing the 1000y free in 9:30.14 with freshman Cary Wright taking second (9:34.79) and sophomore Nick Johnson third (9:44.39).

Colupaev notched an NCAA ‘B' cut en route to a win in the 200y free (1:37.27) while freshman Chad Bobrosky took second (1:38.54). Sophomore Jack Wagner was third (1:40.92).

Junior Nick Karpov won the 100y back in 49.97, edging Bloch's 50.00. Freshman Luca Spinazzola was third (51.31). Bloch came back later to post the fastest 100y fly of the day in 49.96.

Morozov, who re-wrote USC's 50y and 100y free record books as a freshman, debuted as a sophomore in the 100y breast and blazed to a 55.06 (NCAA ‘B' cut) that made him the 10th-fastest Trojan ever in the event. Freshman Andrew Malone was second (57.52) while junior Blake Cushing was third (59.02).

Junior Justin DiFederico won the 200y fly out of lane 1 in 1:49.50, coming from behind on the final 50 to beat Lendrum (1:50.46). Wright took third (1:51.32). In the final individual event, DiFederico's 4:02.92 led the field.

Senior Jeff Daniels won the 50y free in 20.67 while Roadrunner senior Chris Pipes was second (21.44) and Trojan junior Matt Voell third (21.67).

Morozov came back later to win the 100y free in 44.02, an NCAA ‘B' cut. Daniels was second (46.02) while CSUB's Pipes was third (46.37).

Lendrum won the 200y back in 1:47.05 (0.35 off a ‘B' cut) while Karpov clocked a 1:51.38 and senior Will Orlady claimed the 200y breast (2:05.35).

Bobrosky, a member of the Canadian national team, won the 500y free in 4:32.21 while Colupaev, in an exhibition swim, was not far behind in 4:32.94.

The meet ended with the 200y free relay, USC's Morozov, Daniels, Bloch and Wagner winning in 1:22.46.
