COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., November 26. BYU sophomore Zach Anderson and Wyoming junior Scott Usher have been named Mountain West Conference Men's Co-Swimmer's of the Week, respectively, while Utah freshman Harley Davis garnered the Diver of the Week award. This is the first swimmer of the week honor for Anderson, while Usher claimed his second. Davis earned his second career diver of the week honor.
At the Speedo Cup Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., Anderson claimed a second-place and third-place finish, making the NCAA "B" standard qualifying time in both events. In the 500 freestyle, his third place time of 4:22.86 is tops in the conference this year and is third all-time in the MWC record books. Anderson also broke the MWC record in the 1650 freestyle, touching the end line in 15:24.70.
Usher, a Grand Island, Neb., product, turned in a first-place finish and a second-place finish at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. His victory came in the 200 breastroke, where his time of 1:57.91 not only is the top time of the season and second all-time in MWC history, but was also an NCAA Championship "B" Cut qualifying time, as well as a new Boilermaker Aquatic Center pool record. Usher also turned in a "B" Cut time of 54.54 in the 100 breastroke, which is also tops in the league this season and second all-time. Both times are the fastest in the nation as of last week.
Davis, a Salt Lake City, Utah, native, won both board events in a dual match win over Denver last weekend. This is the second week in a row that he has swept the diving competition for the Utes. He turned in a score of 233.35 in the 1-meter, 22.85 points ahead of the next competitor, and scored 231.85 in the 3-meter dive, 12.3 points higher than the second-place finisher.
