Butler Squashes Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Kentucky, October 21. BUTLER swam to 19 event wins, including 10 season-best times, en route to a pair of wins over host Transylvania on Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon. The women's team scored a 146-116 victory over the Pioneers, while the men's team notched a 148-112 triumph.

Mary Beth Arnold, Sarah Lynne Gates and Ali Overgaard paced the Butler women's squad with two wins a piece. Arnold dominated the breaststroke events, swimming the 100 breast in 1:09.48 and the 200 breast in 2:32.64. Gates notched top marks in the 200 back (2:19.93) and 200 IM (2:19.21), while Overgaard scored fast times in the 100 free (57.57) and the 100 fly (1:03.03).

Stephanie Altepeter also scored a win of her own in the 200 free (2:05.89).

Raj Duggal paced the men's squad with three event wins of his own, notching fast times in the 500 free (5:04.82), 1,000 free (10:45.43) and 200 fly (2:06.31). Chris Gordon added two wins of his own in the 100 free (49.65) and the 200 free (1:49.76), while Korey McCulley notched victories in the 50 free (22.52) and the 100 back (57.05). Jason Brozek also swam to a pair of wins with fast times in the 200 IM (2:04.43) and the 200 breast (2:18.21).

Both squads scored wins 200 medley relay with season-best marks. The women's quartet of Gates, Arnold, Overgaard and Stephanie Moles swam to a first-place time of 1:54.59, while the men's team of McCulley, Brozek, Jimmy Howard and Gordon claimed victory with a 1:41.86. The men's team also scored the win in the 200 free relay, with Duggal, Howard, Ben Shafer and Josh Bennett swimming to a 1:33.80.
