Butler Quad Meet

FISHERS, Indiana, October 3. VALPARAISO'S men's swimming team opened the 2010-2011 season on Sunday afternoon, dropping all three ends of a triangular meet against Evansville, Saint Louis, and IUPUI at Fishers High School in Fishers, Ind.

The Crusaders fell 146-76 against Evansville, 168-63 versus Saint Louis, and 120-79 while taking on IUPUI.

David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) opened the season with a victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.79 seconds. He won the race by 0.22 seconds over Evansville. He followed that up with a win by nearly three seconds in the 200 butterfly. The senior finished with a time of 1:57.02 in the fly.

Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.) posted an event win for the Brown and Gold in the 200 breaststroke. The freshman posted a time of 2:12.86 to win by nearly five seconds. He also earned a third place finish in the 200 individual medley. He touched the wall in 2:04.28 in his first collegiate individual race.

Guillermo Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internacional de San Salvador H.S.) added a fifth place effort in the 1000 free with a mark of 10:45.29.

Valpo finished the day with a third place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Sivak, Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.), Russell Deghi (Sebestopol, Calif./Analy H.S.), and Alex Cox (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way H.S.) finished in a time of 3:20.15.

Valparaiso (0-3) will return to the water on Friday afternoon at the Dennis Stark Relays hosted by Notre Dame. The first event begins at 4 p.m. CDT.
