Akron extended its lead after Thursday’s finals of the 2017 Women’s Mid-American Conference Championships. They broke one record on the night and Buffalo broke two as those teams lead the way through two days in Oxford.

Miami got a win from sophomore Ella Moynihan in her home pool in the 500 free with a 4:46.65. She got pressure from Buffalo’s Hannah Miller who was second at 4:47.76. Eastern Michigan’s Nicole Swartz was third at 4:49.99. It was Miami’s first win in the 500 free at the MAC championships since 2004.

Akron got its first individual win of the meet with Maddie Myers’ meet record in the 200 IM. The sophomore had a 1:56.92, under her 1:58.98 from last year. Her backstroke split of 27.97 was what separated her from the field as nobody else in the race split under 30 on that leg. Buffalo’s Sarah Baxter was second with a 1:59.23 and Akron’s Paloma Marrero was third at 1:59.53.

Megan Burns of Buffalo broke the meet record in the 50 free with a 22.04 for her third straight win in that event at the MAC championships. Buffalo has now won five of the last six MAC titles in the 50 free. Mallory Morrell was the last Bull to win that event before Burns and it was Morrell’s record that Burns broke of 22.24. Burns was hardly pushed during the race, but it was Corrin Van Lanen of Ohio who finished second at 22.55 and Sierra Wagner of Eastern Michigan was third at 22.72.
