British Synchro Trio Selected for Commonwealth Games

12th January 2006

GREAT BRITAIN, January 12. THREE swimmers from the Rushmoor club will represent England in the synchronised swimming events at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The Commonwealth Games Council for England today announces the selection of Olivia Allison, Jenna Randall and Lauren Smith for the Games.

Jenna competes in the solo event in Melbourne and partners Olivia in the duet, with Lauren travelling to Melbourne as duet reserve. All three are members of the Rushmoor Synchronised Swimming Club, based in Farnborough, Hampshire.

The trio completes the selection of Team England¹s 46-strong aquatics team
for Melbourne, which also features athletes competing in diving and swimming events.

Lauren is a late replacement for Bristol¹s Hannah Massey who has withdrawn through illness.

Lauren was runner-up to Jenna in the solo discipline at the 2005 British Synchronised Swimming Championships, held in Leicester in November.

The England synchronised swimming team will be coached by Adele Carlsen, who won a bronze medal in the duet event at the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games in 1998 and also coached the England team that won a brace of silver medals at the Manchester 2002 Games.

Ann Hogbin, Team England¹s Chef de Mission for the Melbourne 2006
Commonwealth Games, said: "I'd like to congratulate our synchronized swimmers on their selection as members of England¹s aquatics team for Melbourne and wish them well for the Commonwealth Games."
