British Long Course University Championships: Liam Tancock, Jess Sylvester Double

SHEFFIELD, Great Britain, February 12. THE British Long Course University Championships is underway, and Liam Tancock and Jess Sylvester both pulled off doubles this evening.

Tancock improved his season best time in the men's 50 back with a 25.44. That swim moved him from seventh in the rankings into a sixth-place tie with Ashley Delaney. Ryan Bennett took second in 26.68, while Luke Wood finished third in 26.90. Tancock doubled up with a winning time of 23.53 in the men's 50 free. Andy Bushell (23.80) and Ollie Wilson (24.17) completed the podium.

Sylvester claimed the women's 100 fly in 1:00.13, while Tilly Gray finished second in 1:00.72. Katie Ambridge snatched third in 1:01.35. Sylvester doubled up with a 26.26 in the women's 50 free. Rachel Haigh (26.34) and Rebecca Guy (26.62) placed second and third.

Michael Jamieson snagged the men's 200 breast title in 2:13.31 to move to fifth in the world rankings. Eric Shanteau owns the early world pacesetter with a 2:12.12 from the Austin Grand Prix last month. Laurent Carnol (2:16.92) and Andrew Willis (2:17.60) took second and third in the event.

Caitlin McClatchey won the women's 200 free in 2:00.86, while Melanie Nocher claimed second in 2:02.92. Rachel Bennett placed a distant third in 2:09.42. Josh Walsh topped the men's 200 free in 1:49.86, while Joe Roebuck finished second in 1:52.47. Sean Leahy rounded out the top three in 1:52.64.

Katheryn Johnstone captured the women's 50 breast in 32.99, while Andrea Strachan earned second in 33.37. Kate Hutchinson wound up third in 33.99. Douglas Scott won the men's 50 breast in 29.05, while Michael Dawson placed second in 29.54. Carnol placed third in 29.61.

James Doolan hit the wall in 54.27 to win the men's 100 fly. Adam Mallett (55.92) and Jack Marriott (56.16) picked up second and third. Georgia Davies took home the women's 50 back title in 28.71, while Rachel Lefley touched second in 29.30. Katrina Alder earned third in 29.71.

Nocher dominated the women's 200 back in 2:14.48 with Katy Venters placing a distant second in 2:19.57. Catherine Marcroft grabbed third in 2:23.33. Joe Canlan Shaw touched out Calum Jarvis, 2:04.14 to 2:04.59, in the men's 200 back. Adam Harrington placed third in 2:05.19.

Rachel Solway (2:35.32), Charlotte Barnes (2:35.80) and Katie Raybould (2:38.51) comprised the podium for the women's 200 breast.
