Brazilian Open Long Course Championships: Meet Comes to Close

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, December 18. THE final day of competition at the Brazilian Open Long Course Championships is in the books.

Leonardo De Deus turned in a 55.20 in men's 100 back prelims before scratching finals. Guilherme Guido and Fernando Pires tied for the title in the finale with matching 55.46s. Fabio Santi took third in 56.00. De Deus returned in the men's 200 fly with a top-seeded 1:58.27 before winning finals in 1:59.10. Frederico Castro (1:59.99) and Leonardo Santos (2:01.74) placed second and third.

Poliana Okimoto posted the fastest prelim time in the women's 400 free with a 4:19.33 before scratching finals. Manuella Lyrio placed second in prelims with a 4:21.91 before scratching as well. Ana Marcela Da Cunha topped the finale in 4:20.34, while Carolina Bilich took second in 4:22.44. Betina Lorscheitter earned third in 4:24.16.

Juan Pereyra led men's 400 free preliminary qualifying with a 3:53.62, but scratched finals. Marcos Oliveira won the overall title in 3:55.20. Andre Schultz (3:56.81) and Marcus Botega (3:57.01) finished second and third.

Fabiola Molina clocked a 1:01.38 in prelims for the women's 100 back top seed, before winning the title in 1:01.48. Natalia Diniz (1:02.68) and Fernanda Alvarenga (1:03.79) rounded out the top three.

Joanna Maranhao claimed the women's 200 fly top seed with a 2:10.25 before winning the title in 2:11.66. Yana Medeiros touched second in 2:21.04, while Thais Xavier placed third in 2:24.68.
