Big 12 Announces Swimmers of the Month

DALLAS, jan. 31. THE Big 12 Conference announced on Wednesday the swimmers and divers for the month based on performances in January. Selections were made by a vote of the league's head swimming and diving coaches.

Three athletes were selected as the male co-swimmers of the month. Matt Ferrarelli of Missouri, Brendan Hansen of Texas, and Matt Rose of Texas A&M were selected.

On the women's side, Erin Phenix of Texas was chosen as female swimmer of the month.

Texas' Troy Dumais was named male diver of the month and female diver of the month accolades went to Texas'
Ally Hartzell.

Ferrarelli, a junior, had four first place finishes in
individual events and participated on relays that finished first and second during the month. The Retford Knotts, England, native recorded wins in the
200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard backstroke at Southwest Missouri State. At Drury, Ferrarelli placed first in the 400-yard IM, the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley relay.

Hansen, a sophomore, had four first-place finishes, three of which were in the breaststoke. At Auburn, Hansen won the 200-yard breaststroke and helped his team to a second place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. He continued his winning streak in the breaststroke by taking the titles in the 200- and 100-yard events at Georgia and Texas A&M.

Rose swam in 13 events in four meets. At Texas, the Aggie sophomore was part of three first-place performances in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. At meets at LSU and Auburn, he placed first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and took top marks in the 200-yard medley relay.

Texas' Erin Phenix was undefeated in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles in January. The junior had top finishes at Georgia, Florida and at Houston. Included in her individual accolades, she helped her teammates to victories in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay.

Texas senior Troy Dumais continues his dominance on the
springboard with six victories. He swept the one- and three-meter springboard events at Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M.

Texas sophomore Ally Hartzell took first-place honors in the one- and three-meter springboard at Georgia. At Florida, she placed second and third in the one- and three-meter springboard, respectively.

The Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in College
