Belgium Sending 17 to European Championships

The Royal Belgium Swimming Federation has announced that the nation will send 17 swimmers to the 2016 LEN European Championships.

When swimming begins in London on Sunday, Belgium will be represented by eight women and nine men.

Kimberly Buys is slated to swim an impressive six events- the 100 freestyle, 50 and 100 butterfly, 400 and 800 freestyle relays, and the 400 medley relay.

Juliette Casini also has six entries, listed in all three relays, plus the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles.

Camille Bouden, Juliette Dumont, Valentine Dumont, Lotte Goris, Fanny Lecluyse and Jade Smits complete the women’s roster.

For the men, Glenn Surgeloose leads the way with six entries. He is expected to compete in all three relays, as well as the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles.

Pieter Timmers is entered in five events- the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles along with the freestyle relays. Louis Croenen is entered in four events- the 200 freestyle, 100 and 200 butterfly, and the 800 freestyle relay. Dieter Dekoninck also has four entries, the 100 and 200 freestyles and 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Lander Hendrickx, Jonas Coreelman Jasper Aerents, Nils Van Audekerke and Lorenz Weiremans complete the men’s roster.

The team is also sending an impressive seven coaches. They are Ronald Claes, Horatiu Droc, Ronald Gaastra, Inge Leeten, Philippe Midrez, Ward Pellegrims and Rik Valcke.
