Belarus Sprinter Gerasimenya Tests Positive for Steroids, Is Banned for Four Years

MINSK, Belarus, August 2. TRIPLE European Junior champion sprinter Alexandra Gerasimenya, 17, of Belarus has been banned by FINA for four years after testing positive for the steroid norandrosterone.

The punishment was four years, rather than two, because the offense took place before FINA reduced its doping penalties last month to a maximum of two years for a first offense.

All of Gerasimenya's results from september 25, 2002 to June 2, 2003 have been stricken from the official books.
