Baylor Knocks Off McCallie, GPS

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee, February 5. ON Friday, the Baylor varsity girls defeated GPS 169-143, while the Baylor varsity boys were victorious over McCallie 174-141.

Over the course of the evening's competition, Baylor swimmers racked up three individual automatic All American swims, and had two relays swim automatic All American times.

The Baylor girls medley relay of Sarah List, Alison Lusk, Erin Simpson, and Pitman won the event and set a new Baylor Aquatic Center pool record of 148.98. The 200 freestyle relay of Alison Lusk, Caitlin Henegar, Rachel Dyer, and Pitman raced to victory.

In the individual events, it was sophomore Sloane Pitman leading the Aqua Raiders. Pitman stood up and won the 50 and 100 yard freestyles in personal best times. Her 50 freestyle earned her automatic All-American status, and ranks her 3rd on the all time Baylor top times list, while her 100 freestyle time was a big time drop, and was an All – American consideration time.

Alison Lusk swam personal-best times in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM. The 100 breaststroke was a new Baylor Aquatic Center pool record and an automatic All-American time, while the 200 IM was good enough for second place. Erin Simpson won the 100 butterfly and placed second in the 100 backstroke, both in personal-best times, while Sarah List won the 100 backstroke in a personal-best time.

On the boys side, Baylor won all three relays. In the medley relay, it was Michael Vredeveld, Brad Hamilton, Brandon Lord, and Jake Hora. In the 200 free relay, the quartet of Brad Hamilton, Michael Vredeveld, Greg Roop and Jake Hora set a Baylor Aquatic Center pool record and posted an automatic All-American time of 1:27.15. Brad Hamilton's leadoff leg of 21.24 tied his pool record, and was also an automatic All-American time. The 400 free relay of Greg Roop, Matt Limerick, Brandon Lord, and Nathan Vredeveld closed out the meet with the victory.

Individually, Brad Hamilton won the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Nathan Vredeveld won both the 200 and 500 freestyle in personal best times. Jordan Mauney won the 1 meter diving, Jake Hora won the 50 freestyle and Michael Vredeveld won lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 free.
