Bauerle Signs Contract Extension at University of Georgia

ATHENS, Georgia, October 13. UNIVERSITY of Georgia men's and women's swimming coach Jack Bauerle has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him as the Bulldog head coach through the 2009-10 season, according to an announcement by UGA Director of Athletics Damon Evans.

"Jack is not only a successful coach and teacher, but he is a tremendous ambassador for the Athletic Association and the University as a whole," Evans said. "He epitomizes everything we expect from our coaches and staff."

Bauerle is entering his 27th season as the head coach of the women's team and his 23rd year guiding the men. During his tenure, Bauerle has led the Lady Bulldogs to four national championships (1999, 2000, 2001 and 2005) as well as three runner-up finishes (2002, 2003 and 2004) and he has produced 35 top-20 teams. He is a four-time recipient of the NCAA Coach of the Year Award and a combined 12-time SEC Coach of the Year honoree.

Bauerle has coached 179 combined All-Americans and has led Georgia's squads to 45 NCAA individual and relay titles. Under Bauerle, Georgia has recorded two world and 19 American records. With 357 dual-meet victories, he is the SEC's all-time winningest coach. Georgia has succeeded away from the pool under Bauerle as well. He has produced three NCAA Woman of the Year honorees, 52 Academic All-Americans and 21 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients.

"I'm certainly appreciative of the vote of confidence given to me by Damon Evans, the Athletic Association and the Athletic Board," Bauerle said. "There's no better place to work than the University of Georgia. I'm excited about the opportunity we have to continue on the path we started several years ago when Vince Dooley gave me the chance to become coach at UGA. Not only do we want to keep producing championships, we also want to keep producing quality student-athletes who can make an impact away from the pool."

Bauerle has been called on several times to serve the United States in international competition, including most recently as the women's head coach at the World Championships this past summer. He also has been an assistant coach at the Olympics, the World University Games, the Pan Pacific Championships and the World Championships.
