Ava Ohlgren Sets Meet Record in 400 IM at Oxford Speedo Sectional

OXFORD, Ohio, July 24. AVA Ohlgren, swimming unattached, took down the women's 400 IM meet record at the Oxford Speedo Sectional. In long course meter swimming, Ohlgren destroyed the previous standard of 4:50.92 set by Justine Mueller on March 18, 2004, with a top time of 4:45.45 to claim a dominant triumph in the race.

The performance, while not her best time this year, still was surprisingly fast heading into USA Swimming's National Championships next week. Ohlgren's top time this year is a 4:44.82 set in June.

Meanwhile, Jared Miller of the Cincinnati Marlins beat teammate David Mosko in the men's medley event with a time of 4:33.48. Mosko wound up placing second in 4:34.25.

Ellis Schieman of the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins started the meet with a time of 2:04.51 in the women's 200 free, while Rob Andrews, 17, of Great Lakes Aquatics followed with a winning effort of 1:52.33 in the men's 200 free.

In the 100 butterfly races, Jennifer Fredsall of Cottonwood Heights touched first in 1:02.85, while one of the top high school swimmers this year, Austin Staab of Westerville Aquatics, won the men's race in 55.01.
