Australian Long Course Championships: Eamon Sullivan Smokes 100 Free

SYDNEY, Australia, March 20. THE fourth night of swimming came to a close at the Australian Long Course Championships with several strong swims on offer.

Jessicah Schipper started off the evening with a winning time of 56.90 in the women's 100 fly, while the ever-busy Stephanie Rice took second in 57.67 as she continues to work through a Phelpsian program at Sydney. Felicity Galvez finished third in 57.79.

Eamon Sullivan dropped a swift 48.34 to win the men's 100 free with Matt Targett (48.63) and Andrew Lauterstein (48.64) battling for the second spot behind him. Matthew Abood finished fourth in 49.05.

Stephen Parkes earned the men's 400 IM title in 4:18.64, while Thomas Fraser-Holmes finished second in 4:22.07. Declan Potts completed the podium in 4:26.18.

Blair Evans finished individual finals for the night with an 8:30.86 to win the women's 800 free, while Melissa Gorman (8:31.81) and Bronte Barratt (8:43.29) placed second and third.

In semifinal action, Christian Sprenger (28.12) and Brenton Rickard (28.25) led the men's 50 breast, while Sophie Edington (28.07) and Emily Seebohm (28.36) topped the women's 50 back. Leisel Jones was in a class of her own with a 1:07.02 to pace the women's 100 breast, while Ashley Delaney earned the top seed for the men's 100 back in 53.92. Libby Trickett clocked a 24.61 for lane four in the women's 50 free, while Cate Campbell continued to gut out a hip injury, which will require surgery, to take second in 24.73. Lauterstein grabbed the top seed in the men's 100 fly in 52.57, while Nick D'Arcy finished second in 52.70.

In multi-disability events, Jemma Houghton won the women's 100 back in 1:12.39, while Grant Patterson picked up the men's 10 back title in 1:58.85. Brendan Hall pocketed the men's 400 free crown in 4:19.23.
