AUBURN’S MATT BRICKER NAMED SEC SWIMMING AND DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn freshman diver Matt Bricker was named the Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the SEC office for his efforts during the Georgia Diving Invitational last weekend.

"His performance at the Georgia Diving Invitational was his best to date," head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "He was very consistent on all three levels and that was really key for him on the weekend."

The Winter Park, Florida, native placed first on the platform event with a score of 552.25, which was not only the top score at the invitational by nearly 90 points, but also the top score in the SEC so far this season.

Bricker's score was his best of the year and earns him an automatic qualifying score for the NCAA zone meet. The freshman also finished third on the 3-meter and fourth on the 1-meter on the weekend.

"Matt's platform performance now as compared to a month ago is big considering that he is probably scoring 50 points higher than he was at the beginning of December," Shaffer said. "I am pleased with his improvement on the little things and that will make a strong finish to his freshman year."

This marks the first time an Auburn diver has been awarded the honor since the Athlete of the Week was started for swimming and diving.
