AUBURN SWIM COACH HEADS UP USA SWIMMING DISTANCE CAMP

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Auburn University assistant swimming coach Ralph Crocker has been named the head distance team coach for USA Swimming which entails heading up the two-week National Team Distance Camp held here June 3-16 at the Olympic Training Center.
Also invited to train at the camp are current Auburn swimmers Maggie Bowen, Magda Dyszkiewicz, Kevin Clements and James Galloway.
The swimmers must meet certain criteria to be invited to the US Olympic Development camp, which is based on performances in the 2001 Phillips 66 Spring National Championship and the 2001 NCAA Division I Championships.
For the women, the criteria is: 1. The eight fastest available swimmers in the 800 free; 2. The four fastest in the 1500 free; 3. The four fastest in the 400 individual medley. On the men's side, the criteria is: 1. The 12 fastest in the 1500 free and 2. The four fastest in the 400 IM.
There are 21 athletes that qualified and accepted the invitation including eight male and 13 female swimmers. The camp is designated as one of the elite National Team camps for 2001.
The Auburn swim team also currently has representatives Taylor Spivey and Pat Calhoun traveling on a European tour, which starts in Monaco and ends in Rome. The tour is a swim circuit called the Marenordstrom Series and will continue through the summer.
