Auburn All-American Swimmer Jon Roberts Transfers To Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, June 29. UNIVERSITY of Minnesota men's swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today that Auburn All-American swimmer Jon Roberts, from Raleigh, N.C., has transferred to Minnesota. Roberts, a three-time All-American in 2007, will be eligible to compete in 2007-08 as a junior.

Roberts had a career meet for the Tigers at the 2007 NCAA Championships, helping the Tigers to the NCAA title, held at Minnesota's University Aquatic Center. He finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke in a career-best 53.01. He is the second-leading returner in the nation in the event and his time of 53.01 would be a school record at the U of M. Roberts also placed 15th in the 200 breaststroke in 1:57.37 after clocking a career-best 1:57.24 in the prelims. He also finished 14th in the 200 individual medley in 1:46.21 after posting a time of 1:46.07 in the prelims.

Roberts finished fifth in the 100 breast, sixth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 breast at the 2007 SEC Championships. He was a five-time scorer at the SEC Championships during his two-year career at Auburn.

Roberts is a graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C. He placed seventh in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2004 U.S. Summer Nationals and was a member of the U.S. Junior National team for two years. He won nine high school state titles in New York prior to moving to North Carolina as a senior.
