Aspalt Green to Host 3rd Annual Memorial Swim Hosted by Olympian Gary Hall, Jr.

NEW YORK, October 20. ON Saturday, November 15th, competitive and leisure swimmers alike will hit the water with gusto for Asphalt Green’s 3rd annual "Swim For the Future" swim-a-thon, hosted by Olympic swimmer Gary Hall Jr.

The event, which runs from 6:00 PM- 10:30 PM, honors the lives of Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang, two Asphalt Green Masters swimmers who died in the World Trade Center terrorist attack. The event raises funds for The Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang Scholarship fund at Asphalt Green that provides financial support for promising young New York City swimmers to pursue their dreams.

Gary Hall, Jr. will be Master of Ceremonies at this year’s swim. He will help inspire participants to do their best and encourage them to support our young swimmers who have Olympic dreams.

Gary is a two-time Olympian. He has earned eight Olympic medals (4 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze) and is currently training to make his third United Stated Olympic Swim team in Athens 2004, where he could become the most decorated athlete in US Olympic history.

Since its inception in 2001, "Swim For the Future" has awarded over twenty scholarships for city kids to swim on Asphalt Green’s competitive age group team – AGUA.
AGUA team fees range from $1,050-$2,250. Each recipient is selected based on talent, dedication and passion for the sport of swimming, in addition to financial need.

"Swim For the Future" hopes to raise an additional $250,000 this year. The goal is for the Scholarship Fund to live in perpetuity, providing financial assistance to an ever greater number of children each year.

The Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang Scholarship Fund ensures that Andrew and Doug’s commitment to swimming, fitness and leadership will forever be remembered.
“Doug was never happier then when he was in the water. When I see the look in these kids’ eyes when they get near the water, it reminds me of him and makes me smile. They are what it is all about,” explained Doug’s brother Steven.

Anyone may participate in "Swim For the Future," either as a swimmer, a sponsor or a spectator. Participants collect donations based on the number of laps they swim or as a one time, tax-deductible gift to Asphalt Green’s Scholarship Fund.

A VIP Reception with Gary Hall, Jr. will take place at Asphalt Green from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM for anyone who makes a donation of, or raises over $250.

To register to swim or to make a donation, log on to www.swimforthefuture.kintera.org or please make a check payable to: "Asphalt Green Swim For the Future," 555 East 90th Street, New York, NY 10128.
