NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has received a verbal commitment from Lake Oswego, Ore. native Ellie Jew, who will join the Wildcats as a member of the class of 2023.

Jew does her club swimming with Lake Oswego Swim Club and has her U.S. Open cut in the 100 breast. She concluded her long course season as a three-time finalist at the Mt. Hood Speedo Sectionals. She also recorded four personal bests at the Federal Way Speedo Sectionals in March.

Jew also represents Lakeridge High School. At the OSAA 6A State Championships during her junior season, she was the runner-up in the 100 breast (1:03.33) and finished third in the 200 IM (2:05.21). She also split a 28.49 on the breaststroke leg of her school’s winning 4×50 medley relay and anchored their third-place 4×50 free relay in 24.47.

She told Swimming World:

“University of Arizona gives me a great opportunity to excel as a student and an athlete! The coaching staff is amazing and I fell in love with the team atmosphere. I am so excited to be a wildcat!”

Her best times include

  • 100 breast – 1:01.47
  • 200 breast – 2:15.39
  • 200 IM – 2:03.80
  • 400 IM – 4:25.63
  • 100 free – 52.12

Jew will be a great addition to Arizona’s breaststroke group when she arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season. She would have scored in the B-final of the 100 breast and in the C-final of the 200 breast at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships. She’ll have one season of overlap with top returning Wildcat breaststroker Mallory Korenwinder.
