Arizona vs. Stanford Men

TUCSON, Arizona, January 26. THE No. 3 ranked Arizona men's team knocked off No. 2 Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. this afternoon. The score of the meet was 184-114. The win improves the Cats record to 6-0 (3-0, Pac-10) while the loss drops the Cardinals record to 3-1 (1-1, Pac-10).

Starting off the meet on a good note with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay was the team of Albert Subirats, Ivan Barnes, Darian Townsend and Jordan Smith when they swam a time of 1:27.73.

Arizona kept the wins coming when Matt Biel's time of 9:08.43 was fast enough for the first place finish in the 1000 yard free. Jean Basson came in second (9:14.10).

In the 200 yard free, Nicolas Nilo finished in first place (1:36.88) while teammate Townsend came in second (1:36.89).

Subirats continued his first place finishes with wins in the 100 yard backstroke (47.48), the 50 yard free (20.19) and the 100 yard butterfly (46.69). Arreguin came in first place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 55.46.

Freshman Cory Chitwood's time of 1:45.23 was fast enough for a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke. Teammate Bryan O'Connor's time of 1:46.51 was good for a second place finish.

In the 500 yard free Basson's time of 4:25.91 was good for a first place finish. Biel finished in second (4:28.99).

Arizona finished off the meet with a victory in the 400 yard free relay. The team of Smith, Nilo, Townsend and Joel Greenshields swam a time of 2:57.12.

In the diving well, Arizona's Ben Grado finished in first (330.38) while Matt Bisordi came in second (303.00) in the 1 meter dive. In the 3 meter dive Bisordi finished in first (352.88).
