Arizona State vs. Berkeley

BERKELEY, California, January 26. THE fifth-ranked California womens swimming team rebounded from its loss to Arizona yesterday with a 158-129 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday in Pac-10 dual meet competition on senior day at Spieker Aquatics Complex. Cal improved its dual meet record to 3-1 (2-1 in league play).

Senior Emily Silver capped off her final home meet of the season in style, earning victories in the 50 (23.03), 100 (49.93) and 200 (1:48.57)
freestyle relays to earn the freestyle trifecta.

Even though Arizona State began the day with a victory in the 200 IM, Cal
won the next three events in the 1000 free (Blake Hayter, 10.09.20), 200
free (Silver) and 100 back (Lauren Rogers, 54.67). Rogers also dominated
the 200 back, touching the wall with a time of 1:59.26, nearly four seconds ahead of second place finisher Rikka Brunner (2:03.52) of Arizona State.

Dana Vollmer led a Golden Bear 1-2-3 finish in the 200 fly with a
first-place time of 1:58.31. Amanda Sims (2:00.18) and Tara Thomas
(2:03.24) finished second and third respectively. Vollmer also captured a
first-place finish in the 100 fly with a mark of 53.33

Senior Rachel Ridgeway placed third in the 100 back with a time of 56.81.

Sophomore Heather White celebrated her birthday with a victory in the 400
IM with a blistering time of 4:19.19 seven seconds better than her opponent Ashley Evans.

Alexandra Ellis captured the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.68, while
Lauren Boyle secured a 500 free victory with a winning time of 4:52.71.

Samantha Young accumulated a score of 255.37 to capture a 1-meter diving
board victory, while Laura Sanford tallied a 266.40 to place second in the 3-meter diving board.

The Bears resume Pac-10 action next weekend at USC on Feb. 1 and at UCLA on Feb. 2.
