Arizona State, USC Take Top Seeds at Pac-12 Men’s Championships Day 3 Prelims

The third day of the Pac-12 Men’s Championships is underway after five morning prelim events. Cal and Stanford took top seeds during the session, but so did Arizona State and USC.

DAY 3 PRELIMS RESULTS

400 IM

Stanford’s Curtis Ogren took the top seed in the 400 IM (3:41.63), leading a trio of Cardinal swimmers to make the final.

Cal’s Andrew Seliskar was second (3:44.03), leading a quartet of Golden Bears to make the final.

Cal’s Sean Grieshop was third (3;44.07), followed by Stanford’s Alex Liang (3:44.25), Arizona’s Nick Thorne (3:44.26), Stanford’s Abrahm DeVine (3:44.41), Cal’s Ken Takahashi (3:45.11) and Cal’s Michael Thomas (3:45.46).

100 Fly

Cal’s Justin Lynch picked up right where he left off after winning the 50 free on Thursday. Lynch took the top seed in the 100 butterfly (42.25), leading a 1-2-2 finish as Matthew Josa and Zheng Quah tied for the second seed at 45.66.

Arizona’s Chatham Dobbs took the fourth seed (45.72), followed by Stanford’s Brad Zdroik (45.84) and Andrew Liang (46.07), Cal’s Pawel Sendyk (46.26) and Utah’s Ben Scott (46.28).

Arizona State’s Cameron Craig will look to earn a first-place finish that is not from Cal or Stanford. The sophomore took the top seed in the 200 free (1:33.97), ahead of teammate Grant House (1:34.14).

USC’s Dylan Carter was third (1:34.32), followed by Cal’s Bryce Mefford (1:34.57), Utah’s Liam O’Haimhirgin (1:34.72), Cal’s Trenton Julian (1:34.74), Arizona’s Jorge Iga Cesar (1:34.81) and Cal’s Kyle Coan (1:34.96).

USC’s Carsten Vissering took the top seed in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 52.03.

Cal’s Connor Hoppe took the second seed (52.32), followed by Stanford’s Matt Anderson (52.73), Cal’s Matt Whittle (52.87), Stanford’s Brennan Pastorek (52.89), Stanford’s Hank Poppe (52.92), USC’s Mario Koenigsperger (52.95) and Arizona’s Matthew Salerno (53.09).

100 Back

Without Cal graduate Ryan Murphy, the 100 backstroke is wide open as the top eight finished within a second of each other and four tenths separated the first through fourth seeds.

USC’s Ralf Tribuntsov took the top seed at 45.47 and teammate Robert Glinta was third (45.77).

Dobbs swam his second of a Friday double and took the second seed (45.69).

Stanford’s Ryan Dudzinski took the fourth seed (45.84), followed by Arizona’s Thomas Anderson (46.16), Utah’s Paul Ungur (46.32), Cal’s Daniel Carr (46.35) and Arizona State’s Zach Poti (46.37).
