Arizona State Inks Stibbe, Wagner

TEMPE, Arizona, November 13. THE Arizona State University water polo program has received a pair of National Letters of Intent as Christy Stibbe (San Jose, Calif.) and Kristen Wagner (Orange, Calif.) have signed with the Sun Devils, Head Coach Todd Clapper announced Monday. The duo, currently seniors in high school, will join the Sun Devils in time for the 2008 season.

"We are excited to have Christy and Kristen join our program," Clapper said. "Both of these student-athletes will make an immediate impact for us. They both bring tremendous skill to the team and I look forward to seeing them help continue to build Arizona State into one of the top programs in the nation."

Stibbe, a native of San Jose, Calif., has been a key player for the Leland High School Chargers, helping her squad to the BVAL title as a sophomore and junior while being selected All-BVAL First Team and the BVAL MVP both years. An All-CCS Second Team honoree both years, Stibbe has found the back of the cage nearly 200 times in her career as she tallied 100 goals as a junior after recording 80 as a sophomore. Stibbe also has been selected as a member of the Pacific National Zone Team in both 2004 and 2005.

"Christy Stibbe has all of the tools to develop into a very strong contributor for us," Clapper said. "She has good speed, is strong and is aggressive in putting the ball away when near the goal."

A native of Orange, Calif., Wagner has excelled while playing center for both Villa Park High School and SET Club Team. During her 2006 campaign, Wagner garnered All-Century League First Team honors before taking All-CIF Division II Second Team accolades as well. In 2005, she earned a place on the Orange County National Youth Zone Team before advancing to the Top 48 cut (out of 120 athletes) at the Women's Youth National Team tryouts. That same summer, Wagner helped SET to a second place finish while earning All-America honors at the 16 and Under Junior Olympics.

"Kristen Wagner is a strong center with very good transition speed," Clapper said. "She has the ability to create and score in one-on-one situations. While she has been a major contributor to both her teams, she is still improving at a rapid rate."
