Arizona State Adds Women’s Water Polo

Athletic Director Kevin White announced that Arizona State University will add varsity women’s water polo, beginning in the 2000-01 academic year.

The Sun Devils are planning to offer eight full scholarships and will begin searching for a coach next year to allow for adequate time to recruit. With their location, financial support, scholarships, and first-class facilities, Arizona State expects to be competitive with the top programs in the country in a very short period of time.

The addition of Arizona State University marks the fifth Pac-Ten school to add womens water polo, just one shy of the number necessary to establish a conference championship. Considering the fact that several other schools within the Pac-Ten are discussing the addition of the sport, it seems fairly certain that the conference will sponsor a championship within the next few years
