TUCSON, Arizona, October 15. KICKING off the 2010-11 dual meet season, the Arizona swimming and diving program hosted a relay meet Friday afternoon with Arizona State, UNLV and Kansas. Though no official score was kept, the Wildcats won 15 of the 22 different relays swum.

The meet opened with a rather unusual 300 medley relay for both the men and women. That meant, two swimmers in the relay would start from the opposite end of the starting blocks. The ASU women took the event with a time of 2:44.19 while UNLV's men's team took their respective heat in 2:22.83.

Next, in a 50-100-150-100-50 freestyle relay event, the UA women and men swept the event with the women's relay of Briana Wilford, Grace Finnegan, Susana Helms, Margo Geer and Kait Flederbach winning in 3:48.80.

The men's winning freestyle team featured Nick Popov, Rob Iddiols, Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or, Craig Jordens and Kelley Wyman turning in a time of 3:23.81.

Swimming relay events of three legs consisting of backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly were then swum with the Wildcats winning four of the possible six. Hannah Ross, Sarah Denninghoff and Aubrey Peacock highlighted the 3×150 backstroke event winning in 4:24.29. On the men's side, A.J. Tipton, Jordens, and Rob Koubratoff took the 3×150 butterfly in 4:04.12.

After a break, the Cats took both versions of the distance relay of 3×400 free relay. Shapira Bar-Or, Koubratoff and freshman Matt Barber led the way for the men with an 11:12.66. For the Wildcat women, Alyssa Anderson, Helms and Ashley Evans had an 11:53.48 showing.

After the three-legged relays, UA won all four of the discipline-only 200y relays, with the women's backstroke group of Geer, Denninghoff, Ross, and Peacock turning in an impressive time of 1:45.72.

A 100-200-300y individual medley relay was the penultimate relay with the men's threesome of Ellis Miller, Cory Chitwood and Austen Thompson winning the men's side of the event with a time of 5:41.13.

To cap the day, UA's women's 200 free relay team of Geer, Flederbach, Finnegan and Denninghoff were victorious in 1:34.07.

Tomorrow, the same four teams will be back at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center for a traditional dual meet featuring 400 length relays and the 200 I.M. Admission is free.
