SANTA CLARA, California, June 22. BLUEFISH’s Laura Sogar had a fun day as she capped it with a winning effort in the women’s 100-meter breast at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara.
Sogar topped the finale in 1:09.15 after having joined legends Rowdy Gaines and Aaron Peirsol in the age-group exhibition Arena Grand PrixView with local kids this afternoon. Sogar has been faster this year, ranking 17th in the world with a 1:07.76 from the Austin stop.
UBCD’s Tera Van Beilen took second in 1:09.59 with UCSC’s Fiona Doyle winding up third in 1:09.61 to wrap up the top three finishers.
Tucson Ford’s Emma Schoettmer (1:10.47), HACC’s Jenna Van Camp (1:10.51), Missouri’s Abby Duncan (1:10.65), WCAB’s Kasey Carlson (1:10.89) and UCSC’s Tianna Rissling (1:11.17) comprised the rest of the top eight, while Stanford’s Sarah Haase was a late scratch.
WRMS’ Rebecca Terejko took home the B final win with a 1:10.95, while NBAC’s Annie Zhu posted a second-place 1:11.63. Mexico’s Erica Dittmer snared third in 1:11.89.
Wisconsin’s Anna Meinholz (1:12.20), AQJT’s Olivia Anderson (1:12.47), Tory Houston (1:12.67), Emily Cameron (1:12.85), Hong Kong’s Yvette Kong (1:13.05) and QSS’s Morganne McKennan (1:13.74) also swam in the consolation heat.
